I am sending this newsletter out one day early — TOMORROW the December issue of Greater Fort Wayne Family magazine will be posted online at fwfamily.com
But today you will want to visit the Web site. We have a huge new cookie recipe collection at fwfamily.com with one cookie recipe for every day of the month of December! I thought you’d appreciate an early heads up. The interactive collection was created by the Associated Press. You will see it at the top of the fwfamily.com home page in the “What’s New” section. Or you can use this direct link:

It is very enjoyable to click on each day of December and see what cookie recipe is featured. I guarantee you will get some new ideas and your mouth will be watering!
COOKIE EXCHANGES
One of my favorite Christmas memories is going to cookie exchanges. A group of friends or co-workers selects a date and everyone makes a certain amount of Christmas cookies — perhaps 5 dozen. Then everyone brings an extra container and everyone leaves with a selection of cookies that were brought to the gathering, plus the recipes if everyone agrees to bring copies of their recipes, too. It is a very enjoyable way to get a beautiful variety of Christmas cookies and some great new recipes.
TEACHABLE MOMENTS
Our December issue has a Life Step article (pages 12-13) about turning baking into “Teachable Moments.” Don’t miss it! Enjoy your holiday baking with little helpers!

HUMOR HELPS
In the 1960’s when Bonnie’s four children Doreen, Diane, Darlene and Larry were young, they always cut their own Christmas tree. Each child picked out a tree and they voted on the one to take home. One year Bonnie’s brother, Delbert, 17, volunteered to take the kids tree shopping. When they arrived home with the tree Delbert apologized, saying the choice was because of Bonnie’s tradition of being “diplomatic.” The tree to vote on was Darlene’s choice. It was a “Charlie Brown Tree” — ugly! When the other three voted it down, Darlene began to cry. Darlene explained her tears this way: “I know it’s ugly. It’s so ugly no one will ever take it home with them and it will never know what Christmas is. It’ll just die right here and never have any kids put Christmas on it. We have to take it home with us!” “Needless to say, that was the most loved and most commented on Christmas tree we’ve ever had,” writes Bonnie Brownell of Albion.
When Mark was in kindergarten (he is 48 now) his role in the Nativity play was innkeeper. His one line was, “There is no room at the inn.” Carol explained to him what an inn was. On the day of the play, Joseph knocked on the door. Mark opened it and had a look of horror on his face. Then he shouted, “There ain’t no room here at this motel!” and slammed the door in Joseph’s face. Needless to say, it brought a shout of laughter from all the parents! — Carol Adams of Wolcottvile
These two stories are from my Christmas files. Pat Glass of Kendallville shared them with me in 2002. Caralie is now a gorgeous and talented senior at East Noble High School.
Caralie, 4, was visiting her grandmother, Pat, and helping to put up Christmas decorations. Pat has a beautiful white crocheted angel and she was wondering if she should put it on top of her tree or set it on a table. Pat has often called Caralie, “My little angel.” So Caralie commented, “I think you better put that angel on top of the tree. I couldn’t stand still that long … especially if I had to go potty!”
One time when Caralie was in the car with Pat, they heard the song that goes, “Caroling, caroling, now we go…” Caralie said with excitement, “Grandma, listen they are singing my name!”
Thank you to everyone who shares their stories! Each issue of FW Family magazine has Humor Helps —— I always need more stories. If you have a story to share please just reply to this e-mail.
I hope you have family-focused holiday season and you can celebrate the reason for the season together.
Enjoy your family!
