Hello!
Our September issue is now online. When you visit it at fwfamily.com you might note some minor changes to our Web site. We have moved it to a better platform and we hope this change results in much better service for you. Let me know what you think!
TEACHABLE MOMENTS:
Grandparents’ Day is Sept. 13 this year. If you are a grandparent, you can have a tremendous influence in the lives of your grandchildren simply by staying involved. There are so many creative ways to play a meaningful role and have a positive impact on their development:
Nurture them. Offer them your time and undivided attention whenever possible.
Play and interact with them. Keep up with their interests and engage them in activities they enjoy.
Share family history and culture. Tell them about life when you were young, family traditions and religion.
Support them in times of stress. When times are tense—either due to divorce, a more, or a new baby—the entire family needs you most.
Nourish self-esteem. Show interest in and praise their work and play.
Adapt your role. Be flexible to meet the family’s changing needs and interests.
Talk with your grandchildren’s parents about the role you want to play in the children’s lives, and remember to respect their choices and decisions. The relationship you build with your grandchildren now will benefit them, and bring joy to you, for years to come.

RECIPE
Here are some more great recipes from the “Amish Cook.” Lovina Eicher is an Amish mother of eight who lives in southern Michigan. I love her recipe because every one of them that I have tried has become a favorite in our house! I have to admit, however, I have not tried this pizza crust recipe yet. But it is on my “to do” list.
Lovina writes: “I will share my friend Lila’s pizza crust recipe. They recently had us over for some delicious homemade pizza. Last night I made pizza for our supper and tried her crust. I topped it with homemade pizza sauce, sausage, ham, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. On one pizza I also put hot peppers. Bread sticks can also be made with this crust.”
HOMEMADE PIZZA CRUST
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 3/4 cup hot water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup margarine
6 cups flour, divided into two
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water and set aside. Mix hot water, salt, margarine and 3 cups of flour. Add sugar and yeast mixture and mix together. Knead in the remaining cups of flour. Let rise until doubled for one hour. Press the dough into pizza pans and bake 5 minutes at 425. Then add whatever toppings you want. This makes three or four 13-inch round pizzas depending on how thick you like your crusts.

HUMOR HELPS
Bonnie Brownell of Albion has made friends with some of the neighborhood girls, Kateland, Christina and Tara. Although Kateland is the youngest she appears to be the leader. Treats are usually available at Bonnie’s home, but Bonnie drew the line when they rang the doorbell and showed her a very cute and cuddly kitten, the last of a litter they were trying to find homes for. After all three highlighted the virtues and advantages of owning this precious pet, Kateland stated without blinking an eye, “And it’s only $20.”
More “Humor Helps” is in each issue of FW Family. If you have a story to share please just reply to this e-mail — I always need more. Thanks in advance!
Enjoy your family!
